Broken Hill
Broken Hill is the outback mining city in far western New South Wales, on the Barrier Highway between Nyngan and the South Australian border. The Line of Lode lookout is the free view over town. Silverton and the Living Desert sculptures are the short drives. It is a sealed-highway stop, still remote enough that you should not plan the day around a late fuel station.
Suggested time: 1–2 nights.
