Byron Bay
Byron Bay is the easternmost point of the Australian mainland. The Cape Byron lighthouse walk and the town beaches are the free plan. Tallow Beach is the long, quieter stretch south of the cape. The town is small, parking is tight in summer, and the highway bypasses the centre, so an itinerary should treat it as an overnight rather than a quick photo stop. South toward Sydney the Pacific Highway towns — Ballina, Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie — are the natural stages.
Suggested time: 2–3 nights on a five-day coast run.
